Street Songs

Translated from the Polish by Andrew Gorski

I had something to say

The doors were thrown wide open

In my sleep I laughed out loud and shouted

and all the words lapsed into dream.

I had something to take note of

that no one else could see

I walked out onto the street and looked

Stumbled and fell into an open dream.

I walked along holding a child’s hand

and not wanting to talk with him in verse

And waking I still remembered

how much I didn’t want to pull him into my dream.
